Metro Birmingham county named healthiest in Alabama

According to a new 24/7 Wall Street study, Shelby County is the healthiest county in Alabama.
The county showed better marks than national averages in most categories, including percentage of adults who report being in fair or poor health and percentage of adults who smoke or drink excessively.
Shelby County reported a smoking rate of 14 percent, obesity rate of 30.1 percent and a medium household income of $70,187.
In determining the healthiest county in each state, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed county-level health data from County Health Rankings & Roadmaps, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute joint program. The report ranked each state’s counties based on the incidence of premature death and self-reported levels of health
